1962 Chevrolet Corvette Amazing History, 327/300 HP, 4-SPD, Gorgeous Resto

Description:

We have an amazing story to tell on this beautiful Honduras Maroon 1962 Chevy Corvette convertible, which we had the privilege of selling a few times before. Representing the last, and for many enthusiasts, the best, year of the C1 (Corvette, 1st generation), the beautiful icon must be seen to be believed. But first, the interesting story behind this captivating Corvette. Purchased fresh out of college as a graduation present to himself, the first owner bought the car at Luby Chevrolet on Queens Blvd in NY. The Corvette was ordered with plenty of options, including the 327/300 hp V8, 4-speed manual transmission, Positraction axle with 4.11 gears, white wall tires, signal-seeking Wonder Bar AM radio and a hard top. The car was also ordered with undercoating. Total price w/sales tax was $4,264.20. After the proud owner took delivery of the Corvette, the car was pampered and only driven on fair weather days. Sadly, while the owner was visiting friends in Queens, the car's hardtop was stolen and never recovered. Back in the early 1960s, Queens had one of the worst crimes rates on the east coast. The owner was heartbroken, yet thankful the whole car didn't get stolen. However, a few years later the whole Corvette was stolen. It was recovered just a few blocks away with no damage, and the teenage culprit was apprehended. Several years later, the car was again stolen and recovered within days. During most of its life, the car sat dormant, at one point for over 20 years. As a result, the car needed to be restored. Fortunately, the owner had been collecting N.O.S. parts when they were available, such as bumpers, stainless-steel trim, tail light assemblies, hub caps, grill and gauges. He then chose a restoration shop in PA. Several years passed, which sometimes happens with high-end restorations. But when the owner finally went to the shop to check on the restoration's progress he was greeted by an IRS foreclosure notice on the door. It stated there would be a liquidation of assets and an auction that included this man's '62 Corvette, as the IRS thought the shopped owned the car. At the auction, he found his car ready to be sold, but after providing his proof of ownership the car and its various parts were released to him. A second restoration shop was chosen to complete the Corvette's restoration and it proved to be worth the wait. After three years, the frame-off, concours-quality effort was finished and it even included undercoating as when the car was new. Unfortunately, the owner enjoyed the car only a few years because he ultimately succumbed to health issues that prevented him from driving. We were lucky enough to purchase this exquisite piece. The Corvette has its original title, sales invoice, sales brochure and all photos and receipts of the restoration. The car still boasts its numbers-matching powertrain as well as that drag-race-oriented 4.11 Positraction axle. To say this classic is quick and fun to drive would be an understatement. Also, it is as pristine underneath as it is outside and inside. It is time to pass the torch to another classic car enthusiast who will appreciate this wonderful classic Corvette.
