Introduced midway through the 1964 model year, the Ford Mustang was a smash success right out of the gate. The sporty compact car with the long hood and short rear deck proportions was initially offered as a coupe and convertible, which were soon joined by a fastback. The Mustang offered a wide range of six- and eight-cylinder engines so there was something for every sporty car fan in Fords stable. On offer here is a beautiful 1965 Mustang convertible that was gradually restored from 2004 through 2010 and that has seen minimal use since. The body, interior, engine and suspension were all refurbished as needed, and the cars binder contains plenty of receipts as well as the original window sticker, original sales contract, original owner's manual and photos showing the restoration of the body and engine. Wearing a high-quality and handsome Rangoon Red respray nicely accented by the power white convertible top, the Mustang's rock solid and original body boasts even panel gaps and doors that close with a finger's push. The car's massive curb appeal is further boosted via the original wheel covers wearing modern radial white wall tires as well as brilliant chrome and stainless-steel trim. The interior is in fine shape too, from the convertible top down to the carpet, and it still has the block-off plate in the dash signifying that the original buyer did not spring for an optional AM radio. This sharp drop top provides peppy performance by way of its 289 C-code 2-barrel V8. That V8 was rebuilt about 12,000 miles ago and sends the power to the rear wheels through the 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission which itself was rebuilt about 7,000 miles ago.
