1969 Oldsmobile 442 W-30, Only 6K Orig Mi, Very Rare, Must See

Description:

It could be argued that, as far as muscle cars were concerned, the late 1960s belonged to General Motors. The Chevelle SS, Oldsmobile 442 and Pontiac GTO all had a winning combination of looks and performance that made them icons of that thrilling era. We are proud to offer an especially desirable example of GMs impressive midsize muscle lineup: a 1969 Oldsmobile 442 coupe equipped with the very rare W-30 high-performance package. Originally purchased from Berejik Oldsmobile in Needham, MA, a dealership that specialized in high-performance offerings, this car represents one of just 1,097 W-30 coupes made that year. Listing for $263.30 back then, the W-30 package featured upgraded engine components, red plastic inner front fenders and a dual-snorkel, cold-air induction system with below-the-bumper intakes. This 442 was also originally optioned with a heavy duty radiator, push-button AM radio, front/rear floor mats, door edge guards and Super Stock I wheels with Wide Oval white-lettered bias ply tires. Further upgrades done by the dealership when the car was new (and indicated on the original invoice) include headers, Wico ignition system, Wico tach, DuCoil distributor and, to monitor the beast, water and oil temperature gauges. This special order car received a complete restoration during 2007-2008. Starting with a rock solid body and undercarriage, the 442s original sheet metal was stripped down to bare metal and refinished in its original Burgundy Mist color with a two-step base coat/clear coat process. The similarly solid frame and original floors and trunk pans were refinished in black gloss. The chrome bumpers and other bright work have all been polished to a high luster and the wheels have been upgraded to Olds Super Stock IIs wearing era-correct red-line tires. Apart from the tinted windshield, all the glass is original, as is most of the interior including the dash, steering wheel and parchment-colored bucket seats, door panels and headliner. Only the carpet and rear package shelf were replaced, a testament to the great care the car has received since it was new. Under the hood the 442 still boasts the original, numbers-matching engine matched to a Muncie M-21, close-ratio, four-speed manual transmission. That 400 cubic-inch V8 is fitted with D-cast high-performance iron heads as well as an Edelbrock aluminum intake and Holley dual-feed carburetor. A re-cored 4-row radiator with a six-blade clutch fan keeps things cool, while line-lock, a Sunpro tach and manual steering and brakes are indicative of this quarter-mile terrors true mission. The original exhaust manifolds are included. Also, the car is fitted with boxed lower trailing arms as well as rear suspension air bags to eliminate wheel hop. The G80 posi-traction axle originally came with a 4.33:1 gear ratio (included), but that was swapped out for a 3.73 rear gear which makes the car much more streetable while still providing blistering acceleration. A new 2.5-inch dual exhaust with Flow Master mufflers provides the perfect soundtrack and exits via stock-style chrome trumpet outlets. In addition to the completely rebuilt powertrain (engine, transmission and rear end), the restoration also included rebuilt front/rear suspensions as well as a new gas tank and sending unit. With just over 6,000 miles traveled in total, this documented and very rare 1969 Olds 442 W-30 represents an opportunity not to be missed by the astute muscle car enthusiast and collector.
