Based on and combining the handsome style of a Chevelle from the doors forward with a handy pickup style bed in the back, Chevrolet's El Camino certainly was unique as well as useful for moving large items. Go with the SS version and you also got the added styling and performance of a Chevelle SS. Here we have a fantastic 1971 El Camino SS 350 that must be seen to be fully appreciated. Wearing a high-quality respray in correct Placer Gold with Black SS stripes, this Elky's sharp looks are further enhanced with a bed tonneau cover as well as correct Rally wheels fitted with BF Goodrich white-lettered tires. As with the arrow-straight body, the underside is clean and rock solid. Although the interior originally had a bench seat and was Saddle Tan, a previous owner changed it to black while upgrading it to the factory optional bucket seats and console with its staple shifter. It is in excellent shape overall and loaded with other options whose highlights include A/C, tinted glass, a tilt steering wheel, and an AM/FM radio. Underneath the muscular, raised hood is the 350 4-barrel V8. It sends its power through an automatic transmission and on to a 12-bolt rear end. Power steering and power front disc brakes round out the El Camino's easy-driving hardware. A set of headers and dual exhaust provide the right soundtrack. Note that the El Camino just came out of our shop where we spent around $1,500 to get it fully sorted and ready to enjoy. Highlights of that extensive service included replacing the valve cover gaskets, rear pinion seal, tail shaft seal, new U joints, transmission pan gasket, rear wheel axle seals, rear brake shoes/wheel cylinders, A/C recharged with R134a (works fine).
