This 1966 Chevrolet Corvette is equipped with its numbers matching, original L36 427/390hp engine, close ratio 4-speed Muncie Transmission, and Posi rearend. Other notable options include the F41 Suspension, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Side Mounted Exhaust, Transistor Ignition, Cast Aluminum "Knock-off" Tri-bar Spinner Wheels, Goldwall Tires, and AM-FM Radio. The Mosport Green paint is offset by a Black softtop and Black standard interior. Mosport, named for the Canadian International Raceway), is a one year only color. While striking, accentuating the iconic Mid-Year lines, it is also uncommon, only 2,311 examples in all drivetrain and body types were produced for 1966.
Previous history shows the car benefitted from a "Ground-up" restoration around 2003 and has been driven sparingly and kept in private collections since. It spent most of its time in the 2000's enjoying the retirement life in Florida. Service records show that the car has been periodically checked, maintained as needed, and well cared for. The carbs were rebuilt in June of 2012. In November of 2013 a side exit exhaust system was installed, as well as new rear valance. A Power Steering conversion kit was also installed during this time.
Fuel filler neck gasket and seal replaced in January of 2014, as well as new plugs, distributor advance bushings, headlamp rollout switch, and front-end alignment. Also, a check and set of the timing, check and adjustment of carb mixture. This led to a cosmetic engine bay refresh in February of 2015 including a fresh coat of satin black in underside of the hood and fender aprons. The interior was also refreshed in September of 2015, including seat covers, foam, door panels, headrests, carpet, and insulation.
The engine runs on non-synthetic 10w/30 oil with a zinc additive. The engine was rebuilt in 2016 and is itself essentially stock except for blue printed hydraulic 425hp Comp Cam and high-volume oil pump. The main bearings are .010 over and the piston rings are .040 over. The rebuild of the engine was complete- including re-balancing of the rotating assembly, rebuild of the starter, new flywheel ring, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, thermostat and housing, carb rebuild, timing chain, gaskets, seals, etc. The engine also received a fresh coat of Chevy Orange at the time.
The current caretaker has enjoyed the car since 2019. This big block Mid-Year Corvette has been stored in a climate-controlled environment and fair weather driven only often enough to keep the seals supple and all the moving parts lubricated.
