1955 CHEVROLET BEL AIR 2-DOOR HARDTOP
327 V8 TH350 AUTOMATIC 3.55 REAR
Big purchases deserve straight answers. Here's everything we know about this car, good and bad, and if we don't know something, we'll say so.
======
THE CAR
======
A '55 Bel Air two-door hardtop, the postless car. Gypsy Red over Shoreline Beige with a matching red and beige interior, bright bumpers and trim, front and rear bumper guards, and Rally wheels.
The paint is straight and clean. There are a few flaws, mostly around the trunk area, and every one of them is in the photos. The undercarriage is clean and rust free.
======
WHAT IT HAS
======
ENGINE: 327/250 hp V8, confirmed by suffix code and block casting. Edelbrock 1405 four-barrel, Weiand valve covers, headers and dual exhaust.
ENGINE STAMPING: Suffix S = 1962-64 Chevy passenger car 327/250 hp, originally backed by a Powerglide.
TRANSMISSION: TH350 three-speed automatic, column shift
REAR END: 1955-64 Chevy 8.2"" 10-bolt, drop-out center section, 3.55 gears (confirmed)
BRAKES: Power brakes, front disc / rear drum
STEERING: Manual
MILEAGE: Odometer shows 70,401, but the speedometer isn't working, so true mileage is unknown
======
THE BIGGER PICTURE
======
The drivetrain isn't what this car left the factory with. It's running a verified 1962-64 Chevy 327/250 backed by a TH350 three-speed automatic, which is about as good a combination as you can put in a Tri-Five.
Since it came in, we replaced the transmission pan gasket and fixed the electrical, so the lights and turn signals all work. The speedometer and tach don't work right now. That's the honest list.
