This car has an interesting story, beginning with the fact that it is an original Glacier Blue 1969 Chevelle that was originally built with a Dark Blue bench seat interior. That is certainly an unusual combination to find in a Super Sport, and it gives this car a little history of its own. During the restoration, the decision was made to upgrade the interior with a sporty black bucket seat setup, and we think it was absolutely the right move. The result is a very sharp-looking real SS 396 that combines its rare original exterior color with a much sportier interior.
Under the hood, this Super Sport is exceptionally clean and well sorted. The big-block 396 is the 375-horsepower version, rated by Chevrolet at 415 lb-ft of torque, making it the top regular-production 396 offered in 1969. Factory air conditioning, power steering and power brakes give this muscle car a level of comfort and drivability that makes it much more enjoyable to cruise. Long-tube headers and Flowmaster exhaust give the 396 an excellent muscle car sound while adding to the performance and attitude.
The interior presents very much like a stock 1969 SS, but the black bucket seats were part of the restoration rather than the original Dark Blue bench seat configuration. It is absolutely stunning and gives the car a much more performance-oriented feel. The factory-style appearance has been maintained, while modern sound equipment has been integrated without taking away from the original look. With factory air conditioning as well, this is a car you can actually get in and enjoy.
The paint and body are incredible, and the original Glacier Blue exterior really sets this Chevelle apart. Glacier Blue was a genuine 1969 Chevrolet color, and while it was used across the Chevelle line, there are no reliable production figures breaking the color down specifically by SS 396 model. The paint has a beautiful factory appearance without looking overdone, and we could not find any flaws that take away from the presentation. The chrome and trim complete the look perfectly.
Underneath, this Chevelle is just as impressive as it is on top. The chassis and underbody are exceptionally clean and show the same level of care that went into the rest of the restoration.
If you're looking for a real 1969 SS 396 with big-block power, factory air conditioning, power steering and brakes, an unusual original Glacier Blue exterior, and a beautifully finished interior, this is one you need to see. It has the looks, the sound and the performance to make a great weekend cruiser, while still having the presence to stand out at a show. A car like this won't be here long.
