1971 Chevrolet El Camino

Description:

The 1971 Chevrolet El Camino combined the utility of Chevrolet's car-based pickup with the styling and performance character of the Chevelle line. Finished in Copper Metallic over a black interior, this example features SS-style exterior details and a well-rounded collection of mechanical and comfort upgrades, including a 402ci big-block V8, Muncie 4-speed manual transmission, power 4-wheel disc brakes, power steering, and air conditioning. The body is finished in a deep metallic copper that carries through the door jambs, engine compartment edges, and cargo bed, complemented by bright trim, SS badging, and a black tail panel. The bed is neatly finished with a black rubber mat and protected by a fitted black tonneau cover supported by an aluminum frame and gas struts. Polished American Racing 5-spoke wheels fill the wheel openings and are wrapped in modern performance tires, giving the El Camino a muscular stance and retaining a traditional muscle-era appearance. Under the hood is a 402ci Chevrolet big-block V8 topped by a Holley aluminum intake manifold and Holley 4-barrel carburetor, with polished Chevrolet valve covers, long-tube headers, an aluminum radiator, and a serpentine accessory drive. Power is sent through a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission to a 12-bolt rear axle with 3.73 gears and Positraction. Chassis upgrades include front and rear anti-sway bars, Hotchkis lower rear trailing arms, power steering, and Wilwood power 4-wheel disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors. Inside, the black cabin maintains much of the familiar El Camino layout while incorporating upgrades suited to the mechanical package. Black bucket seats are fitted with Tanaka multi-point harnesses, joined by a center console with dual cupholders and a floor-mounted 4-speed shifter. A Grant steering wheel fronts Dakota Digital instrumentation, supplemented by an AutoMeter tachometer, while black carpeting, SS floor mats, factory-style door panels, and a cabin-mounted fire extinguisher complete the interior. Modern air conditioning is integrated beneath the dash while retaining the original-style dashboard and controls. This 1971 Chevrolet El Camino SS brings together traditional Chevrolet muscle and practical street-focused improvements. The result is a distinctly configured El Camino that retains the recognizable character of Chevrolet's A-body utility while adding the mechanical and comfort upgrades for a well-sorted build.
