1968 Chevrolet El Camino SS 396. Triple black car with buckets and center console featuring shifter and many more goodies! 1968 was one of the few years for El Camino that the VIN and cowl tag could accurately confirm if the car was a true SS. The 13880 series of cars were definitively known to be Super Sport trim and only came with a 396 big block. This is one of those cars! Its not known which version of the 396 came with the car, and almost a moot point because under the hood now is a juiced up 454 featuring solid lifter valvetrain, cam, headers, Weiand aluminum intake, new carb and MSD ignition with HEI distributor. The odometer was reset with restoration and installation of the 454 and there are 10,000 miles on the clock since then. Nice chrome valve covers, red plug wires and a very neat and tidy engine compartment. No power steering and no power brakes, this one has drums on all four corners. That could be changed awfully easy for the next owner. The nice black paint will be getting a polish shortly and otherwise the car is in fantastic condition. The black vinyl top is excellent, and the interior has lots of new pieces. Chrome is all very nice, rally wheels look great and the box features a embossed bed mat. Inside new carpets, seat covers and headliner have all been installed. The dash looks original, but it in perfect condition. Sources are unclear if the 765 trim code on the cowl tag indicates black bench seat or buckets, but its buckets now with console and shifter. The car was optioned with the 1 year only vertical rotating tachometer which works, and all of the dummy lights in the cluster have been upgraded to factory correct Fuel, temp, oil pressure and voltage gauges with working clock in the center! The AM radio is still in working condition too. This is a US car and was sold new at Rydell Chevrolet in Grand Forks North Dakota. It was imported to Canada by the last owner. Low miles, killer powertrain and good looks! Not sure if its a truck or a car, but it sure is cool!
