1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS Tribute

Description:

1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS Tribute

"A deft revamp of the original 1967-68 body shell created unique styling used for just this season. Good thing the '69s were so interesting. As it turned out, they had to be carried into the '70 model year when production problems delayed the introduction of the fully redesigned next generation Camaro. The most popular enthusiast Camaro was again the Super Sport, which added about $300 to a coupe or convertible and included a 300hp 350ci V8, stiff suspension, and F70x14 tires. Power front disc brakes were now part of the package, as were the nonfunctional hood ports previously exclusive to SS 396s." musclecar. howstuffworks.com

For consignment, a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS tribute showing 1,518 miles, but the true miles are unknown. Owned by our consignor since 2014 this original V8 car now sports plenty of newer parts including the radiator, dash pad, and Cragar SS wheels.

Exterior
You simply can't go wrong with Hugger Orange, here done in two stage application and accompanied by painted SS stripes in white, wide bands that travel over the nose, cowl hood, decklid, and spoiler for an ultra classic look. The Cragars look right here and with staggered tires, the car presents with an aggressive rake with visible traction bars and SS emblems on all four sides. Up front, single headlights bookend the black grille underscored by a trim and new chrome bumper followed by a front air dam. Imperfections include numerous chips throughout, blistering on lower sections, paint runs, rock chips, gap issue on the driver's door, and evident filler on the wheel opening.

Interior
Standard black vinyl door panels cover the inner doors and present nicely, leading to the tall back black vinyl bucket seats also showing in good shape and matched in condition and color by the back seats. A Grant steering wheel fronts the dash with a column of added AutoMeter gauges on the left, and standard period gauges in square bezels over the steering column. The black dash pad is clean and the woodgrain accenting on the glove box stands out. Meanwhile, a Hurst shifter resides on the floor which has newer black carpet and Camaro branded mats. The headliner is in decent shape and the trunk houses a battery box over black mat which covers clean sheet metal where we note some body repair.

Drivetrain
Get your sunglasses on because the bay is filled with nicely chromed and polished components, all dressing the 468ci V8, and this unverified measurement is as told to us by the consignor. It has a 4-barrel carburetor and is mated to a Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission with power being transferred to the 12 bolt rear. Headers are on board to begin the exhaust journey.

Undercarriage
Super clean underneath with no surface rust and only one spot of evident filler repair. Our consignor reports new frame connectors, fuel tank and lines, and rebuilt axle assembly were added and include four wheel disc brakes. The dual exhaust carries FlowMaster mufflers and dumps under the car prior to the rear axle. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs with traction bars in back.

Drive-Ability
After we go through our consignor's directions, the big V8 fires up with authority and is not shy about its audible display. The Muncie does its thing and off we go, rolling this orange muscle car onto the test loop. There's good power here, and straight tracking, but we're on some older tires and won't be flogging this tribute. As is, it performs well and all functions, with the exception of the reverse lights, operate as they should on this well sorted Camaro. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Despite the chips and rust in the paint, we wouldn't hesitate for a minute to take this car to shows, cruise nights, and cars and coffee. Pop the hood and all eyes will be transfixed by the polished and clean powerplant, it really is impressive.
