It is amazing how, when it comes to classic cars, two letters and three numbers can instantly open up a floodgate of memories and a rush of adrenaline. Fully repainted in this stunning royal blue, complete with dual white side stripes, this 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 Tribute looks every bit the boulevard bruiser as it would have half a century ago.
Inside, we find a nicely redone black vinyl interior. A center console separates dual bucket seats, while a four-spoke power-assisted wheel sits just ahead of a massive 8,000-rpm column-mounted tachometer, and a trio of white-faced auxiliary gauges are situated under the dash, displaying engine volts, water temperature, and oil pressure. Power windows and air conditioning add a bit of civility. Fed by a FItech TBI electronic fuel injection system, this big block does away with spent gases through a set of long tube headers and dual exhaust capped off with a pair of sweet-sounding FlowMaster mufflers to give this Chevelle its muscle car rumble. That power is routed through a tried-and-true Richmond five-speed manual transmission before heading to the 12-bolt rear end, which transfers those ponies to the pavement via a set of 15-inch SS wheels shod with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.
