1970 Ferrari Dino 246 GT/L

Chassis No. 01094

Rosso Chiaro over Nero Matching Numbers Royal Provenance 1 of 357 L-Series Exceptional Documentation 5-Decades of Single-Family Ownership

This is one of the most historically significant and well-preserved early Ferrari Dinos to come to market in recent years. Chassis 01094 is an early and rare L-Series 246 GT, one of just 357 examples produced, and it retains its matching-numbers chassis, engine, gearbox, and body.

Factory-completed on September 3, 1970, it was delivered new in Rosso Chiaro (20-R-190) over Nero Vinyl (161). This European-market example, equipped with instruments in kilometers, has passed through the hands of Kuwaiti royalty, an English Ferrari enthusiast, and a U. S. Air Force lieutenant-its most recent custodian for nearly 50 years.

Recently acquired through a respected contact in the classic car world, this car was located as a garage-find in remarkably original condition, tucked away for decades by Lt. Frederick C. Dunn III in Georgia. Since its discovery in early 2025, the dino has since been brought to life and driven short distances. It starts, engages gears, and runs smoothly, though it will require a mechanical inspection and full service prior to any road use.

The Dino presents a unique opportunity to preserve, recommission, or sympathetically restore one of the earliest and most desirable iterations of the Dino lineage.

This is a true and very exciting garage find in every sense-never disassembled or altered, with a remarkably solid undercarriage, factory welds, and authentic L-series details. The fit and finish are exceptional: panel gaps are tight and honest, the doors close with factory precision, and the interior features a remarkable patina. That makes this an ideal candidate for either: preservation-class events, vintage rallies, or exhibition use. A sympathetic mechanical restoration, retaining patina or a concours-level restoration. Our vote would be to keep it original and drive it!

The Documentation Is Superb, including but not limited to:

Marcel Massini history report
Mathias Barth Dino Compendium History Report
Factory Warranty Booklet (#496/D) with original owner listed
Prancing Horse No. 90 Magazine Feature
Luigi Chinetti Motors correspondence
USAA Insurance letters
Amerispec import/export documentation
Handwritten owner letters (1970s"1980s)
Period photos including 1970s UK registration (UBL 272M), Mechanical work and Rebuild.

With its extraordinarily rare L-Series build, royal and military provenance, matching-numbers mechanicals, and unparalleled originality, chassis 01094 represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire a Dino that is as historically significant as it is visually and structurally honest.

All Dino's are special, and the model is very dear to us here at DriverSource, this one however is on another level. A true purist collectors dream.
