Description:

Dressed in tasteful red paint, and cruising on a set of whitewall tires that are perfectly in keeping with its thoroughly original appearance, this 1950 Ford Club Coupe captures American automotive styling at an interesting point in its evolution, a time when cars were pairing down from the substantial fenders and prominent roof heights of the '40s and becoming more streamlined, while riding lower to the ground. Its complete collection of body trim is still intact, and as you move to get a lateral view of this classic, you can easily see how its uninterrupted body lines and integrated fenders represented a dramatic aesthetic departure from its Ford counterparts that had debuted only a couple of years earlier. Climb inside, lower yourself onto the front bench seat and you'll be transported back in time. This interior retains a largely original appearance. The oversized factory steering wheel is still mounted on the column, with the column shifter just behind it, and both rows of seating still wear what is likely the original upholstery. You'll see some obvious signs of the passing decades. Some wear on the gray cloth surfaces, a little discoloration on the headliner. But rest assured that this interior is ready to roll as it currently stands. The original factory gauges are joined by a trio of AutoGage displays mounted just under the original AM radio and an under-dash air conditioning unit has been added to the mix to keep this classic comfortable throughout the year. This Club Coupe runs unusually well, especially when you consider that its drivetrain remains in period-correct configuration. That drivetrain is anchored by a 239-cubic-inch flathead V8 that's equipped with a one-barrel carburetor and fires up without hesitation via a push button inside the cabin. The engine pairs with a 3-speed, column-mounted manual transmission that runs through its gears cleanly. Despite its manual steering, this classic is surprisingly easy to drive. It tracks arrow-straight and comes to a stop via its drum brakes without undue effort. As you glance around the engine compartment, you'll likely notice the presence of a couple of electrical upgrades to enhance dependability, including an alternator that sits in place of the original generator, and the components of a modern 12-volt system. An electric cooling fan has also been added to keep this Ford from losing its cool in more trying driving conditions.
