Description:

Blending the familiar lines of Chevrolet's final G-body El Camino with the attitude, performance, and unmistakable aura of Buick's legendary GNX, this custom build is the definition of bold vision brought to life. The result of a painstaking seven-year effort, this El Camino didn't just receive a cosmetic makeover...it was completely transformed into a well-sorted, performance-capable tribute that feels like a factory experiment GM never had the guts to greenlight.

While other Regal-fronted El Caminos exist, few reach the depth of this one. Most leave the original 305 under the hood or retain a Chevy-themed interior. This one goes far beyond that...not only replacing the drivetrain, but reimagining the entire experience. From the stance to the turbocharged Buick powerplant, it carries the same presence and performance ethos that made the original GNX a legend. Visually and mechanically, it walks the walk.

Finished in gloss black...just like every '87 GNX ever built...the exterior wears a full complement of GNX-style fender flares, functional fender louvers, and 18-inch mesh wheels inspired by the original GNX rollers. A body-matched hard tonneau cover, upholstered bed, and fully functional tailgate complete the custom rear treatment. Wide Nitto NT05R drag radials in back and Nitto Invos up front hint at the kind of power this car was built to manage.

Under the hood is a Buick Motorsports Stage II 4.1L turbocharged V6, breathing through a Precision Turbo setup and backed by supporting upgrades like an upgraded fuel system, oil and transmission coolers, a Precision blow-off valve, and RJC Racing billet pulleys that reduce reciprocating weight. Exhaust exits through a custom stainless steel system, while shifting duties are handled by a THM200-R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, built to withstand serious horsepower. An aluminum driveshaft connects to a 10-bolt Grand National rear end with 3.73 gears, Positraction, and a LPW diff cover for added strength and cooling. A Holley EFI controller mounted in the center console keeps the engine's fuel and spark precisely managed for optimal performance. On a conservative tune, it's put down 470 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels, with the capability for much more.

The suspension and braking systems were given just as much attention. A four-link rear setup anchors the chassis, while Aldan coilovers step in at all four corners provide tunable ride quality and confident handling. Power-assisted Baer four-wheel disc brakes with cross-drilled and slotted rotors bring modern stopping performance, and power steering keeps the car manageable in all driving situations.

Inside, the transformation is just as impressive. The cabin is fully Buick-themed, centered around an authentic GNX dashboard equipped with OEM-style audio and climate controls, a full suite of GNX-style Stewart-Warner gauges including a 160-mph speedometer and boost gauge, and a numbered GNX #487 dash plaque. The correct Grand National door panels house integrated power window switches and "Concert Sound II" branded speakers, while a suede-style headliner adds a refined touch up top. The overall presentation is clean, cohesive, and era-authentic in all the right ways.

At every level, this car was built with discipline, intention, and the right components. It's a true fusion of imagination and execution...a Buick-powered bruiser wrapped in an El Camino body, built to perform just as good as it looks. For anyone chasing a GNX tribute that stands apart, this one checks all the boxes.
