*1997 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S* Every Porsche enthusiast has their favorite generation of 911, but one thing that pretty much everyone can agree on is that the 993 generation- built from 1994-1998- is one of the best the company ever developed. This 1997 993 Carrera 4S is one of the most beloved models from the 993 series, and in recent years has become a coveted collectible, sending values skyrocketing- but with good reason. This example has been under the care of one owner from new and shows a mere 20,649 miles, presenting in exceptional condition both visually and mechanically. If you are looking for the ultimate in naturally aspirated air-cooled 911s, the Carrera 4S is just about as good as it gets. Finished in Guards Red, the Carrera 4S is quickly distinguishable from other 993s by a few key features. In many ways, the 4S was Porsche’s take on a 993 Turbo, just without the turbochargers- this meant that in addition to all wheel drive, the car received the Turbo’s famous “Big Red� brakes, Turbo Twist wheels and an updated front fascia. In the rear, wider rear tires are paired with bulging flared fenders, and a red lightstrip with “Porsche� spelled out, makes for one of the best looking 911 rears of all time and an easily recognizable sports car. Aside from the front bumper, this car retains all original paint around the vehicle. Moving inside the car and the black leather interior is in exceptional condition, with the black floor mats showing hardly any wear along with minimal creasing on the seats as well. Although the 993 was a largely new 911 for Porsche, the dashboard will be familiar to anybody who has experience in one of the brand’s older cars- a simple 5-gauge layout in front of the driver, with the steering wheel framing a centrally mounted large tachometer. The Hi-Fi sound package was added to this car, fitting it with a 10-speaker sound system and 6-CD changer situated up front. Power and heated seats were also fitted from the factory, as well as a remote security system. The heart of the Carrera 4S is a 3.6-liter air cooled Flat 6 that is rated at 282 horsepower from the factory. This sends power through a 6-speed manual transaxle, to all 4 wheels through a rear wheel drive biased all wheel drive system, that instills confidence and does away with Porsche’s “widowmaker� reputation. The suspension on the Carrera 4S is straight off the 993 Turbo, but has been upgraded on this example with adjustable Bilstein PSS9s and thicker sway bars, but all of the original pieces have been included if you choose to return it back to stock. Through this car’s life, it has been largely serviced by the consignor, and it was recently treated to a host of items including oil service, brake fluid flush, power steering fluid, trans oil, new belts and hoses as well as hood and deck lid struts. All of the documentation of repairs is logged with receipts for parts, and you can rest assured that this is a great example based on the care lavished on it. The 993 was the final air cooled 911 built by Porsche and one of the last 911s that was largely hand built. This Carrera 4S is a great example of what many consider to be the pinnacle of air cooled 911 development, that offers a great, involving driving experience, while remaining reliable and comfortable.
