Chevrolet was ready to take the gloves off with its competitors of the Corvette, so in '89 they introduced at the Geneva Car Show the Corvette ZR-1...simply a monster at the time. This highly engineered setup was just about double the price of a standard Corvette and generated a waiting list instantly to the dealers across the USA. Dealers had such strong demand that of the 3,049 produced in '90 almost all were sold at a $20-40k premium over the MSRP.
