2003 Acura RSX-S
In the second generation of the Acura RSX, the 2005 Type-S engine was boosted from 200 to 210hp thanks to more aggressive camshafts and a larger-diameter exhaust system. Also, the suspensions on both RSXs were refined, firmer stabilizer bars were added, and ride height was lowered 7mm. The RSX was given better shoes with 17-inch wheels and bigger 215/45R17 Michelin tires for greater traction. Meanwhile the steering system was given a quicker steering ratio with a stiffer column for enhanced feel and response. The exterior was revamped with more aggressive styling by adding a more sporty front and rear bumper, redesigned headlight and taillight assemblies, a restyled signature 5-sided Acura grille, new side sill garnish, and four new exterior colors: Magnesium Metallic, Vivid Blue Pearl, Jade Green Metallic, and Blaze Orange Metallic. Changes to the RSX interior included: more bolstered front seats, new chrome and titanium-looking accents, and meter faces changed from metallic to white.
A dominant player in the sport compact market, the long-lived Acura Integra was replaced with the more powerful, more polished RSX in the summer of 2001. Modern looks, stronger powertrain, and better dressed interior reached out to a more mature, though decidedly youthful, audience. After three model years, the Acura RSX had been treated to a thorough freshening for 2005, adding new appeal to the hatchback sportster. This refresh carries through with our consignment, a 98,991 title verified actual mile 2006 RSX-S in 3 door hatchback form. With a snappy 2.0 liter DOHC VTech engine, a 6-speed transmission, a leather interior and miles deep Vivid Blue paint, you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal on a pocket rocket like this barely broken in unit. It is a Honda after all!
Exterior
Vivid Blue Pearl paint covers all the steel and neoprene panels that make up the rounded wedge shaped Acura. A few dings, scuffs, and stone chips are noted, but the body remains rust free throughout. This sporty package combines looks with aerodynamic styling throughout the entire body, from the aggressively pointed neoprene front bumper to the flush mount 3 bulb headlight assemblies that lead the way up front we are in the heart of the tuner world of design. Chrome is kept to a minimum with only the badging being treated to this shine treatment. Black trimmings are on around the windows and some body matching Vivid Blue covers the dual sport mirrors. A sloping hatchback with a wrap-around greenhouse glass and a rear wiper leads back from the factory moonroof to the squared off tail end with flush mount wrap-around tail light assemblies. Factory Acura 5 spoke wheels in 17-inch format are grounding this sporty skate from the Far East and are wrapped in like new 215/45ZR17 black walls.
Interior
Factory black leather hides wrap the heavily bolstered front buckets and 2+2 rear bench. Fronting these buckets is a black leather wrapped steering wheel with cruise control switches on the right spoke and up front, the factory instrumentation is embedded in a deeply inset white face cluster under the factory dashtop eyebrow. Dials for the heater and AC are situated to the outboard right side along with a ball style vent. Dash central holds a JVC AM/FM/CD/Pandora & Sirus capable touch screen stereo that is also bluetooth capable. The rear seat will fold down allowing access to the trunk space and adds significant cargo area if needed. Speaking of the cargo area, it is finished in fuzzy gray broadcloth with a RSX all weather drop-in mat. Black carpet covers the flooring and up top we see a clean and tight gray broadcloth headliner framing the moonroof.
Drivetrain
Under the hood lies the factory installed 2.0 liter DOHC iVtec 4-cylinder engine in the original but clean engine bay. This mill produces a maximum 210hp in factory trim and maybe a touch more now thanks to the K&N air intake assembly. This small but mighty mill pushes power to a 6-speed manual transmission where power is sent from this transverse mounted mill to the tires via a 4.765 final drive.
Undercarriage
Showing typical wear for a garage kept and well maintained 90,000 plus mile car, some surface rust is present but unremarkable with factory steel remaining intact and solid. Power rack and pinion steering helps you carve the corners and 4-wheel power disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors and red painted calipers brings things to a halt. Providing the ride is independent Macpherson suspension on all 4 corners and a single stainless exhaust is on for removal of spent fossils and is looking just dandy.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter and smooth runner, meanwhile on our test track it gave a firm, but comfortable ride and the interior gave generous space for even my ample frame. Acceleration is capable and swift without worrying about pulling out into moving traffic and shifting was smooth. Under panic braking the car came to a bias free stop and even after my drive I continued to play with the various functions and doo-dads that this JDM skate has to offer. A very nice driving car.
A well kept and barely broken in 2006 version of the RSX-S with a mere 98,991 actual miles, a peppy engine and a manual transmission. This is the final year of RSX production and is wearing the perfect color combo, a car that truly appeals to driving enthusiasts...patiently awaiting you in the West wing of our Hallowed Halls
