1985 Ford Mustang GT Hatchback

Description:

1985 Ford Mustang GT Hatchback

A Foxbody Mustang is a Mustang produced anywhere from 1979 to 1993. It doesn't matter if it's a coupe, convertible, or a hatch. It also doesn't matter what engine it has either, or transmission. As long as it's between the ages of 1979 and 1993, it's a Foxbody. I know, it's a really weird name to give to a car. But, it's called a Foxbody because it's on the Ford Fox platform. Ford designed the Fox platform as a unibody chassis and used it across a wide range of Ford/Lincoln/Mercury vehicles. Ford's main objective with the Fox platform was to downsize the massive cars they made in the '70s.

Welcome to 1985, and this consignment in the form of a 2 owner 1985 Foxbody Mustang GT hatchback. The consignor states that this was bought new by a professor at Brunswick College where she kept this fox in the parking garage. A few points to note are that this car has it's original build sheet, a mostly original interior, and all original sheet metal. 1985 was the final year for carburation on the legendary 5.0, but those days are gone as it now sports a 375hp dyno proven stroker V8 with EFI. A few scuffs and touch ups, but otherwise very nice condition overall. Settle into the seats and breathe in 1985 all over again with some extra kick!

Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.*

Exterior
A nicely presenting respray of Silver paint bathes the exterior of this car. Gone is the blackout hood treatment and in its place we see a low rise fiberglass cowl induction hood complete with hood pins. Just below is the 4-eyed neoprene bumper with factory Marchal foglights tucked neatly on the sides of the muscular lower air intake. Splitting the bumper is wide black trimmings and this runs around the car creating various coves and flares, as well as some embossed GT badging just north of the rear rockers. Badging is correct and clean as is all the window trim. A sweeping hatchback provides room for the large rear window complete with a defogger and sweeps down to the long running spoiler that would become standard fare on the 1987-93 Mustang LX. Rear quarter window louver trimmings accentuate the hatch line and just below are the multi-function wrap around tail lights and another neoprene crash bumper. Rodlite wheels courtesy of Weld Racing in 15-inch format are wrapped in 205/60R15 and 255/60R15 deeply treaded blackwall BF Goodrich TA Radials.

Interior
All original and all shades of light and dark gray with black handles for the door panels. To spice up the gray, are front buckets and a rear 2 plus 2 bench. These have dark gray small checkered inserts, lighter broadcloth bolsters, and a red wide piping delineating the shades of gray. These float in a sea of new clean charcoal gray carpeting. The dash is charcoal gray and original with slightly lighter charcoal inserts that have machine screws to mount these individual plates which house the instrumentation. In the center is an aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo and just below this at the front of the console is the controller/display for the Holley Sniper EFI, and an overhead graphic showing fuel, washer fluid levels, and exterior lights which are not lit. Moving back is the shift lever with a black leather boot, and the handbrake lever, also in black within the gray stitched console sides. Not to be left out, the 3 spoke non-cruise control steering wheel, which is leather wrapped on the rim and is visually appealing.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a professionally built MPR Racing 347ci stroker V8 which is clean enough to eat off of. It has been fitted with Eagle connecting rods, Mahle pistons and has the bottom capped off with a Canton oil pan. Pro-Maxx aluminum cylinder heads with 2.02 valves and Comp Cams roller rockers are fed precise amounts of air and fuel via a Holley Sniper EFI system. Bolted to the back is a T5 5-speed manual transmission with cryo-treated gears, a 2.95 1st gear ratio and an Exedy Stage II clutch. From there an aluminum Ford Motorsport driveshaft hands the power off to a Ford 8.8" rear axle with TracLoc, 3.73 gears and 31 spline Moser axles. Black finished Ford Racing valve coverings and air cleaner are highlighted by no corrosion for all the bolt ons and this potent combination is capable of turning the rear tires to the tune of 375 dyno proven ponies.

Undercarriage
Very slight surface rust is seen but otherwise we note a structurally solid unibody construction with clear floor pans and rockers. Independent coil coilovers in the front with tubular A-arms and a tubular K-member are noted and a 4 link with coilover suspension is seen in the rear. Our consignor notes that this is all QA1 Stage 2 suspension and we see Cobra front power disc brakes working with Wilwood power discs in the rear to provide the WHOAH factor. BBK headers feed down to dual exhaust with a BBK X-pipe and Flowmaster that snakes its way rearward ending with angle cut polished tips. We note the catalytic converters have been deleted.

Drive-Ability
This car fired right up and handled the test track with flying colors. A veritable trip back in time and the roar of the 347 stroker is music to any gearhead' ears. Shifting was smooth and precise and stopping was on part with the new Mustangs on the showroom floor. A great handler and a tight car, so a 2 thumbs up goes to it with all functions working

A 2 owner tastefully modified Mustang here folks, complete with its small battle scars, a known history, the original interior, and overall really nicely preserved survivor. And of course, engine power from the stroker V8 that is sly as a Fox!
