1955 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible

Description:

Cadillacs were indeed the envy of the elite in the 1950s, and this 1955 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible was a rare and expensive treat that even made some Caddy owners jealous. So with its correct big V8 still under the hood, and a personality that owns the road, this example upholds the best upper-class traditions that have created prestige for generations.

Cadillacs of this era are a true exercise in style. Everything from the Dagmars in front to the saber-spoke wheels was designed to get noticed. And so it only gets even more distinct on one given a special continental kit in the rear. It's such a seamless addition to the car that some might just suspect it's factory. Even the exhaust is still extended through the bumpers. The shade of gray is believed to be factory-correct, and it was given a respray to retain a nice shine while never being so perfect that you would be afraid to take this Caddy out for a drive. And, of course, everyone knows the true standout is the bright work. The huge form-hugging bumpers, intricate trim, long V badging, factory wheel covers, and everything else are complete in this example. It's especially opulent, where the grille seamlessly flows into the wraparound front trim and then through the door line. All these details wouldn't look so great if not for body panels treated with respect for seven decades.

The black convertible top has a clean and elegant style, but it gets even better when you take it down. The interior was refinished later in life, but anything they touched, they made sure to give it a proper vintage style. So the smooth dash, full convertible boot, and soft upholstery are all done in black to be both stylish and inviting. You'll even appreciate the little things like the working AM radio and how the classic interior lights greet you when the door opens. As a premium 1950s machine, you also get premium features, like a power convertible top and power windows (one of the rear ones may need servicing.) And you get the classic Caddy cruiser feeling every time you feel the grooves of the thin/grippy steering wheel and look out at the art deco-style gauge package.

Cadillac's 331 cubic-inch engine was the industry's icon, so we're happy to see such a clean and authentic V8 still in the engine bay today. The engine stamp leads us to believe this is the original motor. General Motors was only beginning to spread V8s to the rest of its family of cars during this era. So, Cadillac still reigned supreme with this big motor that carried a quarter larger displacement than anything available at Chevrolet. This has been upgraded to the cool Eldorado-style twin four-barrel carburetor setup beneath the golden air grabber. But, where Chevy was beginning the business of hot rodding, this Cadillac's power was utilized to ensure comfort was achieved at every speed. This motor was rebuilt during the restoration, and its strong but smooth nature reinforces that feeling. And so it continues to be a true cruiser thanks to good features like the Hydramatic automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes.

Complete with maintenance records. This beauty, elegance, rarity, and distinction define an era for Cadillac. So if you're ready for vintage upper-class cruising, this is your convertible. Call now
