The second generation Ford Bronco only ran for two model years, 1978 and 1979, which makes it the shortest-lived generation in the entire Bronco lineup and one of the rarer full-size Broncos you can find today. Ford built it on the same chassis as the F-Series truck, making it over two feet longer and nearly a foot wider than the original Bronco, and topped it with the Ranger XLT trim, which was the luxury package of the era featuring chrome bumpers, wood-tone accents on the door panels, cut-pile carpeting, and additional insulation for a quieter ride. This one is finished in Maroon, restored, with a body and suspension lift, custom side steps, and a presence that suits the era perfectly. Under the hood is the 400ci V8 backed by the C6 three speed automatic. The 400 was the exclusive engine of the second generation Bronco, the only generation ever built around the Cleveland-based powerplant. This Bronco also rides on a solid front axle, which collectors consider the best configuration for serious off-road capability, and it is the last full-size Bronco ever built with one before Ford switched to independent front suspension for the third generation. Four-wheel drive is on tap whenever you need it and the lift makes sure there is plenty of clearance to back that up. Inside, the red cloth interior is clean and comfortable with interior wood paneling that carries the Ranger XLT's upscale character through the cabin. Aftermarket temperature and oil pressure gauges have been added for a real-time read on the engine, and an updated radio handles the audio. This is a Bronco that has been sorted and personalized without losing the character that makes these trucks so appealing. The second generation Bronco is the forgotten middle child of the Bronco family, overshadowed by the collectible first-generation models and the long-running third through fifth-generation trucks. But serious collectors have been paying attention to the 1978 and 1979 models as the rarest of the full-size Broncos, and clean restored examples in maroon with the Ranger XLT package are exactly the kind of trucks that attract a second look from buyers who know their Bronco history.
