1948 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery
1948 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery The 40's was a very unique time for automobile manufacturers. Due to WWII, all automakers were forced to halt production in February of 1942. This meant all cars received very little design changes throughout this time. In 1946, the Stylemaster was introduced and was essentially an updated Master Deluxe. There continued to be very little changes through 1948 but there was a few mild alterations like a center bar on the grill. All that said, this beautiful 1948 varies significantly from your standard Stylemaster. The stock style peaks through in spots but this is an over the top custom that was built and designed by the owner. He is a skilled craftsman that hand built the car with no expense spared and countless hours invested. It all started on the design table where the owner set out to create a completely unique one of a kind street rod. Once the plans were set, 3 different vehicles (a Sedan Delivery, 2 Door Sedan, and Coupe) were acquired to be used on the journey. Most people will read that and might be concerned but this builder wanted to keep the car all steel so between handcrafted materials and old school lead modifications the car is still all metal. It was quite the feat and they pulled it off flawlessly. So much so, that many question how they actually came from the factory. The body is very straight and it is painted in a bright Tangelo Orange that has a slick finish and is packed with pearl that really comes to life out in the sun. There were multiple modifications incorporated into the car which included a hand built grill, new firewall, custom inner fender panels, a welded 2 to 1 piece 2.5 inch wedged hood, custom cowl induction hood scoop, frenched headlights, front/rear roll panels, radius front fenders that were also moved out 2.5 inches in the rear, and more. The doors were customized to feature one piece glass and custom brackets were created for the side mirrors. Everywhere you look it is highly modified and the level of detail is top notch. In addition to the 1 piece side glass it also has a roll down rear windshield on the smoothed tailgate. Flush mounted taillights are featured on the rear fenders and it has a custom third brake light above the frenched license plate. There is no telling how many hours were invested into creating this car and with only 40 miles since completion it is a "ready to go" brand new hot rod. The 16 inch 5 spoke Budnik wheels suit the car nicely and are wrapped with Goodyear Assurance tires. At first glance it looks like the custom cowl might impede the hood from opening properly but that illusion was done deliberately. The firewall has all been modified underneath with a notched center section and you will note it is completely smoothed out with zero parts or wiring in place. To achieve this the power brake system was hidden under the floor, the Vintage AC/heater and battery are under the right fender and all wiring is routed under the left fender. The result is an extremely clean painted to match engine compartment. The motor is a tune port injected Camaro Z28 350 ci motor that runs great. The aluminum cross flow radiator and electric fan are hidden under a cover as well that has a unique fabricated snorkel to direct cool air through the K&N filter. It even has custom made hard hoses that are painted. The car really runs well and sounds excellent through Sanderson headers into 2.5 inch exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers. Up front a 1978 Mustang II suspension was installed with disc brakes and power rack and pinion steering. In back it has a Lincoln Versailles 9 inch rear, also with disc brakes. From the body to the mechanics the car was very well thought out and the interior is no different. To start, 102 cubic feet of Dynamat was installed throughout and the sides were filled with spray foam for added insulation. Plywood was then molded and installed down the sides and headliner to create the custom interior panels. This was all then covered with nice Tan leather The bucket seats are electric and it has a full folding rear bench where two tone leather was used. The car has a Pioneer sound system with 6 unit CD player, amp and 6 speakers. A custom center console is in place and the dash is customized with White VDO gauges and a custom underdash section for the Vintage AC vents and controls. You would think power windows would round out the modern comforts but the car even has a tilt column with Budnik wheel and cruise control! Finally, looking up you will note the custom overhead console with storage and modern courtesy lights. This car was all professionally built and is a case where the builder was building it for himself. So you can be guaranteed they pulled out all the stops and incorporated all their tricks of the trade. It recently won 1st in its class and Best Interior at Autorama so its list of awards is only going to grow from now on. Here is your chance to get a fresh custom at a fraction of the build cost.
